Povestea incepe pe 5 Noiembrie 1605, cand cativa extremisti au pus la cale o asasinare a lui King James. Un cineva pe nume "Guy Fawkes", expert in explozibili, era liderul extremistilor si ...capul rautatilor. Pe scurt planul lui a fost oprit iar el a fost condamnat la moarte. Oamenii erau atat de fericiti incat au avut cateva focuri de tabara pe strazile Londrei... chiar cineva a facut o papusa sub chipul acestui Guy Fawkes si a aruncat-o in foc.

De atunci, in seara de 5 noiembrie a fiecarui an englezii sarbatoresc aceasta reusita a lor de a intercepta un posibil atac prin asa numitul "bonfire night". Focuri de dimensiuni impresionante au loc peste tot in Anglia iar toata lumea asteapta cu nerabdare focurile de artificii.

Citatul "Remember, remember the 5th of November. " este din "V for Vendetta", film care este bazat pe aceasta poveste, doar ca iti lasa o impresie ca totul s-ar petrece in viitorul apropiat. Citeam undeva ca au trebuit sa decaleze lansearea filmului datorita atentatelor de la Londra din acea perioada.

"Remember, remember, the Fifth of November, the Gunpowder Treason and Plot. I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot... But what of the man? I know his name was Guy Fawkes and I know, in 1605, he attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament..."

Coincidenta sau nu, primarul Londrei are o zi dedicata pentru el :) Londonezii sarbatoresc prima instituire in post a primarului si ziua se termina cu un foc de artificii organizat de primarie din donatii de pocnitori. Ziua determina ultima ocazie pana la revelion cand se mai organizeaza focuri de artificii in fiecare zi, si toti au mari sperante ca va fi un adevarat succes.

Sceptic, m-am dus si eu cu aparatul foto in spate, in asteptarea marelui foc de artificii. Dupa cateva ore de research inainte, sa vad unde va fi exact si ce priveliste ar fi mai interesanta sa surprind, ajung la destinatie cu 2 minute inainte de eveniment. Malurile Tamisei erau pline de spectatori, parinti cu copiii dupa ei, turisti care se aflau din intamplare in Londra in ziua asta etc. Toti cu aparatele foto indreptate spre artificii.

Totul a fost o dezamagire totala... Mai multe focuri de artificii vezi in Bucuresti la o lansare de produs. 8 Minute pe ceas a durat tot spectacolul, timp in care nu am reusit sa fac prea multe. Macar ma multumesc cu poza de mai sus :)

Si sper ca zapada vine odata cu vacanta. Mi-e dor de snowboardul meu si astept road trip-ul din ianuarie spre tarile cu partii civilizate. Sunt ca un copil care isi asteapta prajitura...

De vreo doua zile stau si ma gandesc cum o sa fie anul asta, unde o sa mergem, cati o sa fim si multe alte detalii picante care in momentul de fata par a fi luate din basme ;) ...

Si totusi stiu ca timpul trece repede, ca nu mai e mult pana in ziua in care o sa spun: "Maine plecam la snowboard! Hai la bagaje! "

At first when i saw this newspaper i thought ...no... it can't be ! After reading the article i found out that its a documentary made by Channel 4 named "Death of a president". Rushed home, turned on the T.V. and i was amased. Brilliant script, set out in the future, exactly next year.

Very nice to watch... The movie is about what is America willing to do in a death of a president scenario. You'll enjoy it if you can watch it.

Insomniac thoughts

A walk to remember … well its 5 AM and I’m still not asleep. After watching two movies that make you rip your heart out ( The Notebook and A Walk to Remember ) combined with lack of sleep and partial dizziness I got this idea that life is a walk to remember.

I noticed that I have something in common with the topics approached. You know… when you have common grounds with the main characters. Basically they prove you by the end of the movie that it is really possible in real life to get what you want. Stop the need for compromise all the time and go out there and get it. I’m trying to avoid being specific because this applies to almost everything.

Anyway, I’m not going to say much about this because I could go on and on and on and on just like a Duracell bunny, but I enjoyed the idea of live the moment, avoid future regrets, make everything a walk to remember.

Transport for London

Before i start the criticism i must say that London has (in my opinion) the best public transport in Europe. Now for the bad news:

Over the past year there were several increases in price for public transport. It used to be 1 GBP for an one-way bus ride and 2.50GBP for a ride down the tube. Well... now its 1.50 for the bus and 3 for the subway. Nevermind that... What intrigues me is that there is a new way to save money with public transport: its called the Oyster card (which if you ask me its a stupid name, but that's another story)

In other words it acts like a debit card. You put money on it and every time you want to travel, you just touch your wallet to a magnetic receiver in all buses/train stations/London underground etc. and you're sorted. I just saw a T.V. advert for Oyster, which sends the message that its even cheaper than before to use it. Even better, its FREE!

So i decided to get one (soon...) But today i was thinking, since this card contains information and here i quote the T.V. ad, "you can even register it in your name so you don't lose the money on it if gets lost or stolen"; this isn't really good.

Basically i bet the police has access to the database where all this info is kept, and what if not only the police. I mean this stuff is confidential.

Once i register this card, they can easily check who am i, where to i go, how often do i travel, times when i leave the house etc.

Big supermarkets use this type of cards, to gather information on consumer spending habits. Just imagine for a second what you can gather: What to sell, when to sell, intersect the data with football games, holidays etc. and you have an increase in sales!

But as far as travelling goes .... here's one for you.

Well im back ! long time no blog!

I was thinking the other day, while browsing other people's blogs, about which language to use in a blog. Some completely mess up romanian and english in a blog, posting in both languages and to a certain extent its OK, but then again, its not that nice.

Globalisation you say? Romania is joining the E.U. and there is a lot of controversy going on around that topic but coming to think of it, if we all use the English language (being international on-line language) , what will happen to our language in the distant future? Cutting the long story short, right now i'm looking at the downside of globalisation and im not very happy about it. It makes me laugh when i look at the new words added to The Oxford Dictionary in it's last update. Langugages change, some go extinct, but can we make a difference?

I was thinking in the past days that my website needs a change. I've always wanted a website which is close to the public and my old one wasn't really up for the task.
